Motor Mouth, the second of bestselling author Janet Evanovich's Alexandra "Barney" Barnaby series, is a fun romp through South Florida in the tongue-in-cheek tradition of Carl Hiaasen. Sam Hooker, a top NASCAR race driver and his former love interest and current stopper and mechanic "Barney," were just trying to do a friend a favor.
The next thing they knew, however, there was a dead body covered in saran wrap and two men were tracking them with the idea of killing them. Oh yeah, the police were looking for them, too. It doesn't help matters that Hooker is recognized by every NASCAR fan, from Florida to New York.
As Barney, Hooker, and Hooker's huge, but loveable, St. Bernard -- Beans -- try to find out about the dead guy and why everyone is looking for them, bad things start happening all around them. In a fast-paced, farcical romp through South Florida and the Carolina's NASCAR country, the highly visible trio tries to investigate without getting killed. But, there are just too many players: a no-so-grieving widow, a bad-arse brother, and well-dressed,but shady business associates from Zurich. Can Barney and Hooker figure out the mystery in time?
Go along for the ride with Motor Mouth. It's as fun and fast-paced as the NASCAR racing circuit.
Janet Evanovich is the author of 14 mystery novels, featuring private detective Stephanie Plum, as well as two NASCAR mysteries, featuring Alexandra Barnaby. She divides her time between New Hampshire and Florida. Her next novel, Lean Mean Thirteen, is due out in June of 2007.
