In Break No Bones, Dr. Brennan travels to Charleston to supervise a student archeological dig at one of the low country barrier islands. Old bones are found, but so is a newer grave. Brennan connects with her old friend Emma Rousseau, who happens to be the county coroner, and consults with her about the bones the team had unearthed.
Two more suspicious deaths are found within days and all three skeletons have an unusual wound on the 6th vertebrae. Brennan has never seen such a wound and now she finds three in as many days.
Alerted to possible homicide and naturally curious, Brennan investigates. She is soon joined by her estranged, but handsome husband Pete, who just happens to have business in Charleston. Matters get even more complicated when Brennan's boyfriend, a Montreal police detective named Ryan, drives down unexpectedly.
Filling in for her friend Emma, who she learns is seriously ill, Brennan and her two male companions dig into the circumstances of the three deaths. What they find almost costs Brennan and Pete their lives.
Break No Bones is a fast-paced, enthralling read -- one that will have you staying up late into the night to finish it.
