Stephanie Plum and her off-beat friends and family are back for another improbable, yet fun romp around South Jersey.

Janet Evanovich continues her popular Stephanie Plum series with Plum Lucky, released on January 8 and already topping the NY Times best-seller list. In this short (166 page) novel, Stephanie, a bail bondsman and quintessential Jersey girl, meets up with her quirky friend Diesel, a man with unexplained powers and more than his share of charm. That Stephanie has two other men in her life doesn't deter Diesel one bit from dropping in now and again.

Grandma Escapes

This time the pair barely has time to say hello than Stephanie learns that her fun-loving octogenarian grandmother has gone missing. It seems Grandma has found a duffle bag full of cash and, like any dutiful senior citizen, has bought a Winnebago with it and taken off for Atlantic City and the slot machines.

As luck would have it, the person who lost the stolen money is the man that Diesel is looking for, a little man with a leprechaun complex and a penchant for green pants. Neither Grandma nor the "leprechaun" should be difficult to find. With the help of her pals, Lula and Connie, Diesel and Stephanie set out for Atlantic City, only to find more trouble than they expected. It stands to reason that when you find $100,000s on the street, someone will be looking for it eventually.

To Save a Horse

The story gets even more complicated--and farcical--when the group learns that the "owner" of the money, a two-bit Jersey mobster named Delvina, is holding the "leprechaun's" sick horse hostage for the money.Stephanie and her pals try winning the lost money at the tables, without a lot of luck. They even send Diesel into a high-stakes poker game. Will Stephanie and the group be able to recoup the money that grandma has spent in time to save the horse--and themselves--from harm?

Plum Lucky doesn't pretend to be a literary classic. However, if you're a fan of Stephanie Plum and her friends, it's an enjoyable tongue-in-cheek romp that easily read in one evening. Tightly-written and witty in parts, it's worth picking up.
