It's in production; whole episodes are on film; and the debut is set for October 12.

The five-book series, which includes 1st to Die, 2nd Chance, 3rd Degree, 4th of July, 5th Horseman, and most recently The 6th Target, features four women -- a detective, a reporter, a medical examiner, and an attorney -- who track down serial killers in their hometown of San Francisco.

The women will be played by Angie Harmon (formerly with "Law and Order) as Lt. Lindsay Boxer, Aubrey Dollar and Cindy, Elizabeth Ho as Yuki, and Paula Newsome as Claire. ABC has signed on Brett Ratner as director and executive producer for the series. Patterson and Joe Simpson will also be executive producers.

The show is slotted for Fridays at 9pm, beginning on October 12.

For a sneak peek at the show and interviews with the stars, see the ABC Web site.

These aren't the first Patterson mystery novels to come to TV. His novel Suzzanne's Diary for Nicholas was made into a television movie.
