Mystery Writers Born in August
Mystery novelists born in August include one of my all-time favorites, Mary Roberts Rinehart.
Among the mystery authors born in August are:
- P D James - August 3 - Born in 1920, Ms. James is the author of sixteen British mystery books, most of which feature Scotland Yard detective, Adam Dagliesh. The British author is best known for her books, "Original Sin" and "Death in Holy Orders." She is also a member of the British House of Commons.
- Jonathan Kellerman - August 9 - Born in 1949, Mr. Kellerman is the author of numerous mystery novels, featuring child psychologist, Alex Delaware. He lives in New York City with his wife, Faye, who is also a mystery novelist.
- Mary Roberts Rinehart - August 12 - (1876 - 1958) Mrs. Rinehart wrote over two dozen mystery novels as well as plays, contemporary novels, and short stories. Her classic novels include "The Swimming Pool," "The Yellow Room," and "The Circular Staircase." It was she who coined the classic mystery phrase, "The butler did it."
- Antonia Fraser - August 22 - Born in 1932, Ms. Fraser is best known for her well-researched historical biographies. In addition, however, she is the author of a series of British mystery novels, featuring investigative reporter, Jemina Shore.
- Mary Shelley - August 29 - (1797-1851) The English author of the classic horror tale, "Frankenstein," she was married to poet Percy Shelley.
